Amendment 28: The Chance to become a citizen if you have a clean record living here within 5 years
Reasons for:
This amendment can help people in need of succeeding in life. Due to economic problems, many people don't have the same opportunities as us who do live in the U.S. Many people seek job opportunities, come see a loved one, or simply because they are seeking to live the "American dream". Some people that have a VISA can apply to be a citizen. If you don't have a visa, then you cannot come to the U.S. VISA's are issued to foreign nationals to live permanently in the U.S. Non-immigrants visas are for foreign nationals wishing to enter the U.S. A visa is usually valid for up to six months. If this amendment is ratified, many people will be able to have the same opportunites only if you have a clean record.
Two opposition Statements:
- "Immigrants will take American jobs, lower, our wages, and especially hurt the poor". Immigrants are typically attracted to growing regions and they increase the supply and demand sides of the economy once they are there, expanding employment opportunities.
- "Immigrants abuse the Welfare state". Many people can have negative comments about this amendment. Due to racism, opposition and many more, many people won't be okay with this. The U.S is filled with many people from different countries, ethnicities, and races but because of this many people believe only white people should be here.
Two responses of criticism:
The criticism that I could get of this amendment is that people may tell me that there could be problems and difficulties the people might face due to racism or something else. They probably can tell me that I have to think about cultural ideas.
